Protect Prop 8 Signs

Chairs:
Looks like unions are scheduled to steal signs statewide, including prop 8 signs, this coming weekend. Please have people put them up at their homes, but not on roadways, until next monday. This is from a political candidate:

"Please be aware of the following. I just arrived home from a meeting with the Chairman of the California State Republican Party. I was informed that beginning this weekend, 10/10/08, Democrat union activists will be dispatched statewide to collect and remove as many political signs as possible for Republican candidates and Propositions that they do not support. This includes any "Yes on 8" materials or yard signs that they can get their hands on. Since "Yes on 8" yard signs are due to arrive any day and to be delivered to voters, we want to be aware that signs which are unattended or are not brought in at night will most likely disappear, especially this weekend. This activity is highly illegal. The California Republican Party will be filing formal complaints with various District Attorney Offices across the state starting tomorrow, 10/7/08. These complaints will also include activities where individuals supporting Republican candidates, voter registration drives and Prop 8 supporters have been harassed, attacked and physically assaulted. In some extreme cases, the voter registration cards were stolen from individuals under the pretense attackers alleged the signature gatherers were engaging in identity theft due to asking individuals to complete the voter registration forms. One of our local areas were a focus of sign stealing is expected to occur is in the 78th Assembly District due to this being a "targeted" race. This includes east Chula Vista, Bonita, Spring Valley, Lemon Grove and the City of San Diego around SDSU and the San Carlos area. Should you observe anyone stealing yard signs, try to get a photograph and/or license plate number if at all possible and it is safe to do so. The incident should then be reported so that it can be followed up on. If it can be documented with photographs or video that there is an organized effort to steal Prop 8 materials, it will gain media attention which will only help support our cause. Elections have been won and lost simply because someone was caught stealing or defacing an opponent’s sign.
